To meet the PCI requirements, your business must complete two things

1. Comply with all requirements in the Data Security Standard.
2. Validate your compliance. For a small to mid sized business this just means completing the PCI Self-Assessment Questionnaire annually and, when appropriate, having a certified scanning company perform a network vulnerability scan each quarter.
Once your business compliance is validated, then it is considered to be in compliance.
